Story Of A Gorkha Lawyer From Darjeeling, Who Runs For Her Indian Identity

From the "Mountain to the Ocean - Run with Roshni" is the story of the journey of girl from a small village Pedong (in Darjeeling).

She moved to Mumbai after a heart break in 2004, where she studied Masters in Law (LLM) . Roshni says that running helped her to come out of the depression of heart break and she started running marathons after moving to Mumbai.


Running related injuries, set her back only temporarily as she came back and ran over 40 long distance races, subsequently running one of the world's toughest ultra races - the 89-km Comrades Marathon in South Africa. She attributes her running success to her Gorkha genes as Gorkhas are known to be naturally strong due to the geographical environment they grow up in. Interspersed with the history of Darjeeling and of Gorkhas, the book also talks of her struggle to get Gorkhas recognition as Indians through her initiative `Run with Roshni’, whereby she is enabling underprivileged youth from Darjeeling to run marathons across the country. Roshni feels that with the right guidance & exposure, Gorkhas have the potential to become world class runners and compete with the Kenyans and Ethiopians and this
