Canon EOS 1300D, The Camera For The Smartphone Generation

Canon is back with a brand new entry-level DSLR that aims to bridge the gap between the features afforded by cellphones and the image quality of an SLR. The new Canon EOS 1300D packs an 18MP CMOS sensor and built in Wi-Fi as well as NFC. The latter two combine to make the EOS 1300D the perfect companion for social media savvy photos. Why so? We’ll elaborate on that in a bit but for now let’s focus on the camera bit.

If you’re aware of Canon’s camera pedigree you’ll know that they’re all powered by the Digic series of processors. Now in the 4th generation, the EOS 1300D integrates a DIGIC 4+ processor that is simply faster at processing, focusing and more. Its not just the processor that is faster though. The camera has 9 point autofocus and a center cross type autofocus that will make sure that you’ll be able to keep even fast moving objects right in focus. Sports and more importantly, fast moving objects tend to be amongst the most popular subjects for photography and that has clearly been a key focus area for Canon. The faster autofocus and the Digic 4+ processor make it possible to not just focus on the objects but also shoot burst mode at 3 FPS in JPEG mode.

Moving on, it appears that Canon is keeping a close eye on the latest trends where photographing our food has become just as important as eating it. The EOS 1300D brings with it a Food scene mode in addition to all the regular modes we’ve come to get used to on SLRs. You also get full manual control of course. The expanded ISO range of 100-6400 which can be boosted as high as ISO 12800 means that you’ll be able to get the perfect shot even in those dimly lit restaurants. For those who aren’t aware, ISO essentially refers to how sensitive the camera is to light. Being able to go up to ISO 6400 means that you’ll be able to effectively shoot very low light images. To review the shots, the EOS 1300D gets a higher resolution 3 inch LCD display.

Using the Wi-Fi Connectivity option on the EOS 1300D, you can transfer files between smart devices and the camera through the Canon CameraConnect App, available on the iOS and Android App stores for free. The nifty Remote Shooting feature that works in sync with the Canon CameraConnect App enables users to zoom in and click pictures on the EOS 1300D, through a smart device.

And with the NFC connectivity feature built in into the camera, you can download the app quickly by just touching your Android device to the EOS 1300D. Remote shooting is also useful when trying to take long exposure shots where even the slightest vibration can ruin the image. Being able to control the camera wirelessly from your phone and to be able to frame the shot using a better and larger display is sure to make things exciting for budding photographers.

The Canon EOS1300D is priced at Rs. 29,995 for the body and EF-S 18-55mm IS II kit lens and goes up to Rs. 38,995 for the camera body as well as EF-S 18-55mm IS II and EF-S 55-250mm IS II lenses. The Canon EOS 1300D sounds like the perfect gateway to higher end photography for someone who has been brought on the instant nature of smartphone photography. Thanks to the right balance between both raw image quality that SLRs are known for, flexibility of interchangeable lenses and the smart features brought upon via the Wi-Fi and NFC capabilities, the Canon EOS 1300D is perfectly placed to be a path breaking device for amateur photographers.

Amazon India Stops Offering Refunds On Tablets, Laptops And Other Electronics

Bought a tablet, laptop, desktop PC, monitor, camera, or camera lens on Amazon recently? If you bought it after May 11, then your product is not eligible for a refund; Amazon recently updated its returns policy on these products, and if you're planning to make a purchase on the e-commerce site, you should know that your product will not be eligible for a refund, only a replacement.

A statement on Amazon's website reads: "All tablets, laptops, desktops, monitors, cameras, and camera lenses that are fulfilled by Amazon and purchased on or after 11th May 2016 are eligible for a replacement only policy and will no longer be eligible for refunds. In case you have received a defective or a damaged product, you will be eligible for a free replacement."

Other product categories still allow you to return items for a refund, even if you no longer need the item - for example, if you buy multiple products and decide to keep only one. However, in the case of certain electronic products - mobile phones, tablets, laptops, desktops, monitors, cameras, and camera lenses - the window to return a defective or damaged product is only ten days, and you can't return items you no longer require; all you can get now is a replacement. This is also the case with furniture.

DarjMate – A New APP For All Your Darjeeling Info Needs

Flashback to a few years ago, a lot of us struggled to comprehend the philosophy of rapid technological advancement. It was really difficult to cope up with the emerging revolution. Not everyone could fathom the idea of “help” on fingertips.

Fast forward today, we have made a huge progress in terms of technology. Thanks to the wonderful creation called smartphones and apps, everything has become easier and convenient.

Keeping the spirit alive, kindly allow me to introduce you ‘Darjmate,’ an app specifically designed to help the natives in Darjeeling and the many tourists who visit the town. The app covers everything in around the town and is the first of its kind.

As a tech-enthusiast, I cannot but help get in touch with the developer Tashi Bhutia. As we spoke about the app’s foray into the market, I wanted to learn more on the inspiration behind it and what purpose does it serve.

Here’s a quick chat with the app developer.

When asked, what made you start this project, when did you start and how was the journey? Mr Tashi Bhutia answers,

My background: Started my career as a faculty on Zee Career Academy, Darjeeling where we use to use Windows 98 :). My interest drifted towards Web Technology and doing further courses I landed working in Kolkata, Delhi and now Bangalore. Having experience 10+ years, I was always passionate about doing something for Darjeeling in terms of technology, but I was carried away by my mainstream job.

And around 2010, I started taking freelancing job to a limited number of customers and thus introduced Darjeeling Web (www.darjeelingweb.com). However I could sense the numerous hindrances, especially awareness of technology in Darjeeling and its people. People are still happy with Facebook and WhatsApp and least bothered about building a website for their business and others. I'm amazed to see big organizations in Darjeeling still don't have a website or online presence.

DarjMate - Initially I thought of starting ecommerce portal on Darjeeling but after conducting a few research, I came to realize that other than tea nothing can be sold online. And Mobile APP had started to become trendy, and thanks to Google that APP creation was doable. So I started building hybrid APP with Cordova, HTML & Angular (technology) as "DarjMate" and published on 1st Nov 2015. Keeping the internet connectivity in mind, till DarjMate version 1.4 we were working in offline mode but latest 1.5 is totally backend process with advance feature and UX/UI improvement.

Since this is the first of its kind in Darjeeling, I wanted even the native can benefit using this APP especially Medical, HealthCare and Services sections so, I urge Darjeeling Chronicle and others to help me in this sections. I dream and assure of taking this project to further levels.

As of now the app is build for Android users. As per Tashi bhutia, iOS and Windows phone users can use the url m.darjmate.com to see the app. In future the same will be developed for both iOS and Windows supported smartphones and tablets.

The landing page of the Android app has a photo of Batasia loop with the name of the app "DarjMate" in it. It also has the tagline "Darjeeling Guide". As the app is developed by "Darjeeling Web", you can see their logo DWEB there too.

Once you get inside the app you can see 18 different tabs with different captions in it. From those 18 tabs, the first 15 are in blue color and remaining 3 are in red. When asked to the developer why only the last 3 are in red he said, "Felt that's likely to be used more".

Now let me quickly take you through all the 18 tabs present in the app
