Lava Iris X8 Review

A domestic manufacturer of mobile phones, Lava International Ltd., has its headquarters located in Noida, Delhi-NCR. Known for bringing high-quality phones for a low price point, Lava has captured 8% of market share in India. Under the proprietary tag Iris, Lava mobiles hasmade a name for itself.

The latest offering from the company is Lava Iris X8 which is aimed at the budget segment. The phone gives a stiff competition to Lenovo A600 Plus (available using snapdeal coupons), Redmi 2 and Honor Holly. Here is the comprehensive review of this smartphone.

Design & Display

The device has the typical design of any Lava Iris phone with a flat body and thin frame of 8.6mm. The phone is a little bit bulky weighing 160 grams. The rear camera is at the upper left corner of the device and there are three capacitive touch keys below the screen in front. The right side has the power key and volume rocker while the top part has the USB port and 3.5mm headphone jack.

The phone has a 5-inch IPS LCD display with a resolution of 720p. The pixel density on the screen is 294ppi (pixels per inch). The availability of multi-touch makes using the device a lot easier. Asahi Dragontrail Glass provides protection to the screen from scratches and cracks.


The device has an Octa-core 1.4GHz processor with an internal memory capacity of 8GB (1GB RAM) or 16GB (2GB RAM). The internal memory can be expanded up to 32GB using a microSD card. There is an 8MP camera on the back with dual-flash feature for added delight.

The front camera on the phone has a resolution of 3MP and is good for selfie shots and video calling. The 2500mAh battery lasts for one whole day on a single charge.


The device which runs on Android v.4.4.2 KitKat (upgradable to v.5.1 Lollipop) gives a spectacular performance. The Octa-core processor can take care of a lot of tasks at a single time. The internal capacity can store a lot of data and information.

The 8MP resolution camera at the back can capture clear shots even under low-light conditions. The geo-tagging, touch focus and face detection features make the camera capture even more brilliant. The 5MP front camera is ideal for Skype calling. The battery lasts long and doesn’t need to be charged for long.

The various connectivity options on the device include Wi-Fi, microUSB v2.0, Bluetooth v.4.0 and GPS with A-GPS.

The sensors on the device include proximity sensor for automatically switching off the screen and disabling functionality when the phone is brought near ear during phone calls and Accelerometer for changing the view of the display.
