Reliance Jio Launches 4G Service For Employees

It was the birthday of Reliance Industries' founder Dhirubhai Ambani when Reliance launched the much awaited Reliance Jio 4G services at an event held in Navi Mumbai at the Reliance Corporate Park. At the launch Mukesh Ambani said, "I want all of you to take 5 things back: digital life, connected intelligence, Jio life, Jio together and Why Jio? Because life is going digital. Let me now welcome Jio,"

According to a press statement issued by Reliance, employees spread across a 1,072 centres throughout India, and one in Dallas, US, connected to the launch event at Reliance Corporate Park (RCP) in Navi Mumbai on Reliance Jio's own network. Through two-way video conferencing, Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) Chairman & Managing Director Mukesh Ambani interacted with employees watching the event from distant places. The event was hosted by Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan and music director A R Rahman.

The company will offer free subscriptions for employees till the commercial roll out takes place, and heavy discounts on handsets, to push demand. Reliance Jio is also planning a 25% discount on company's LYF mobile handsets. Reliance Jio is expected to expand its services by March-April 2016.

Reliance Jio holds the highest amount of liberalised spectrum among telecom operators which can be used for deploying any technology for mobile services. It has a total of 751.1 MHz spectrum across 800MHz, 1800MHz and 2300MHz bands.

Credit Suisse telecom analysts who have tested Jio's 4G network say they have experienced peak download speed of 70 Mbps during trials, and on most occasions in the 15-30 Mbps range (even on the move). In comparison, Airtel 4G gives 10-20 Mbps (often slower than Jio), and 3G network speeds of sub-2 Mbps (peak 7 Mbps).

In a statement Reliance Jio said, "Never before had there been such a mammoth employee launch in the history of Corporate India. By throwing open the Jio services to all its business partners, and its vast number of employees and their families spread all across India, RIL will be making the optimal use of human resources to ensure that the last and the slightest wrinkle would be smoothed out to perfection before Jio launches its all-India commercial services. Nothing is being left to chances. It is a glowing testimony to the company’s commitment to provide consumers with an exhaustively tried and tested, highest quality digital services".
